Happy Birthday, Florida! Florida became the 27th state of the United States on March 3, 1845, and little of note happened until I moved here in 1978.
Of course, that’s utter nonsense. This state has an amazing history, and I encourage you to start learning more about it here. Invest some time in learning about our history. You’ll find it interesting, sometimes embarrassing, and frequently surprising.
It is impossible to condense this history into a single blog post. I’ve spent the afternoon trying, and I’m exhausted. Suffice it to say that I love this state. The traffic may drive me to distraction and the humidity may be a source of frustration, but our roads always lead to amazing destinations and our weather is attractive enough to lure countless tourists. Some of them, like me, decide to stay forever.
