Dang, it was HOT on the day we visited Windley Key with the Trouble Puppies, but thanks to good hydration habits, we survived.
Windley Key is a great spot for anyone interested in naturalist stuff. Here you will find well-interpreted plant life, a fossilized coral reef, well-marked hiking trails (they’re short; we completed almost all of them in a few hours), shade, and helpful park rangers.
Max and Sconnie appreciated the shade more than anything else, but Steve and I were fascinated by the coral. When you stop to think that coral reefs are the remains of small creatures barely visible to the naked eye, the fact that we were standing in a quarry that reached over our heads was astonishing. How long did it take to make that reef, and how long did it take to fossilize, and how fortunate were we to be able to visit it?
